Overview
As a sub-consultant, Gedeon GRC Consulting provided preliminary design, final design and resident engineering inspection services for the reconstruction, rehabilitation and enhancement of several pedestrian plazas throughout New York City.
Plazas served
Manhattan: Pershing Square Plaza/Streetscape on the east and west sides of Park Avenue between East 41st and 42nd streets (Midtown); Astor Place/Cooper Square — East 8th Street between Lafayette Street & 4th Avenue, Astor Place between Lafayette Street and 3rd Avenue, Lafayette Street between Astor Place & East 9th Street, 4th Avenue/Cooper Square/Bowery between East 4th & East 9th streets, and East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue & Broadway (NoHo/East Village).
Brooklyn: Broadway Bedford Plaza at Broadway, Bedford Avenue and South 6th Street (South Williamsburg); Putnam Plaza at Putnam Avenue, Fulton Street and Grand Avenue (Clinton Hill); Zion Plaza between Pitkin and East New York avenues and Legion Street (Brownsville); New Lots Triangle at New Lots Avenue, Livonia Avenue and Ashford Street (East New York); Myrtle Avenue Plaza Streetscape between Hall Street and Emerson Place (Clinton Hill).
Queens: Court Square vicinity, Thomson Avenue between Jackson Avenue and 44th Drive (Long Island City); 71st Avenue Plaza between Myrtle Avenue and Stephen Street (Queens Business Development District).
Bronx: Morrison Avenue Plaza from Westchester Avenue to Harrod Place (Soundview); Del Valle Square bounded by Bruckner Boulevard, Hunts Point Avenue and East 163rd Street (Hunts Point).
Program outcomes
Delivered through various requirements contracts (HWDRCW01, HWCRQ02S, HWCRQ02L, HWCRQ03S, HWDCRQ04L, HWDRW09, HWARCKR01 and HWARCCW01) and as part of NYC’s Plaza Program, these projects reconfigured transportation circulation to enhance safety and mobility for all modes — reducing pedestrian/traffic conflicts and improving economic activity and quality of life — while improving each plaza scheme to create functional, vibrant and inviting public spaces with areas for pedestrian use, plantings and stormwater best management practices.
