Overview
Gedeon GRC Consulting, as a sub-consultant, provided traffic engineering and roadway design support services for the Park Avenue Viaduct (PAV) Phase 1, from Bent 21 to Bent 53, between the north side of East 115th Street and the south side of East 123rd Street along Park Avenue in Harlem, NY. The project consists of the replacement or repair of major segments of the viaduct, focusing on the elevated steel structure that carries four tracks along Park Avenue between East 110th Street and the Harlem River Lift Bridge.
Why it matters
All Metro-North trains along the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines must travel on the Park Avenue Viaduct to get in and out of Grand Central Terminal. On a typical weekday, approximately 750 trains and hundreds of thousands of customers travel across the viaduct — nearly half of which was constructed in the 1890s.
Scope of services
Gedeon GRC’s scope includes traffic analyses, a simulation study, Work Zone Traffic Control, temporary and permanent traffic signals, temporary and permanent lighting, pavement markings, signage, roadway design support and construction support services.
