Overview

As part of a New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (H+H) emergency project, Gedeon GRC Consulting provided site/civil and structural engineering services to assist H+H with a much-needed larger oxygen tank storage system at the Woodhull Hospital facility in Brooklyn, NY. The fast-track project consisted of the replacement of the existing oxygen tank with a new increased-capacity tank farm, including design of the concrete pad and rehabilitation of the masonry retaining wall adjacent to the tank site. Special consideration was given to the installation and crossing of utilities by the proposed underground oxygen piping from the new pad to the building.

Scope of services

Gedeon GRC was responsible for the site/civil and structural engineering design aspects, including site demolition and restoration and all required infrastructure and site work to support the new tank system. The work also involved overall project management and supervision of the geotechnical engineering — including borings and soils analysis — as well as surveying. Coordination between the tank vendor, hospital staff and construction crews for the phasing and sequencing of site construction activities was essential so that hospital operations were not adversely affected in any way.

Permits & construction support

Gedeon GRC assisted in obtaining construction permits and performed construction support services, including field inspection and construction administration — responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals and shop drawings.
