Overview
Gedeon GRC Consulting provided civil engineering design services for the Manhattan approach ramps — East 124th and East 125th streets and the FDR — at the Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Bridge. Built in 1936, the RFK Bridge consists of three bridge structures and two toll plazas, together with elevated viaducts and a junction structure that distribute traffic between three borough crossings: the East River Suspension Span, the Harlem River Lift Span and the Bronx Kill Truss.
Scope of services
Bridge work involved the replacement and/or rehabilitation of decks, joints, barriers, drainage, lighting, superstructure and substructure, as determined by inspection, investigation and review of the latest Biennial Inspection reports. The scope included bridge inspection, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), water permits, and preparation of reports, plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) — with coordination among agencies including NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYSDEC, NYCDEP, DSNY, NYCDPR and MTA Bus.
